My family room is 4000 cubic feet. I am interested in Hsu STF-2/ VTF-2 or SVS-PB10. I'll be using for both music & movies (60:40). Please let me know your comments and also explain what is Variable Tuning Frequency port technology in VTF-2.

Do you have a budget or is it down to those 3 subs only?

The variable tuning it to allow the subwoofer to play a little lower, but it givea up output in the higher frequency's.

Here, this is the SVSound PB-12plus/2. You can see by plugging the port, the subwoofer will play lower, but not as loud as it did with the port open.

It has settings for a 25Hz tune, 20hz, and 16Hz.

Mind you, this subwoofer will outperform the others you mentioned, I am only using it as an example.
