I have a small room 12 X 12, and want to add a subwoofer to my 2 channel setup. The choice is between Velodyne dd-12, Sunfire True Subwoofer EQ, and the B & W asw 825. Please comment. My listening is 75% HT

how much are these subs gonna cost you?

for 75% HT, I would suggest the Velodyne SMS-1 with an SVS subwoofer or two

In a 12x12 room you only need one sub. However, for future planning I would purchase the most powerful one possible. Powerful in the sense that it is tight, fast, deep, and musical. The Velodyne or B&W would do even for a much larger space. You could shop for lesser name brands and get tremendous performance for less money. Maybe even purchase two smokin' 10's for not much more than a single unit you have your mind on. Try looking at axiom, svs, or rbh. Some of these guys will let you audition and return if not satisfied. But...if it is between the ones you listed...the Velodyne may be a smidge deeper/louder than the B&W. As always suggested...go listen and deal w/ someone who will allow an in-home audition/tryout. Good luck.

I have a SVS PB12 plus/2 and a SVS PB12 plus that I use with my 804S.

Even the smallest, the PB12 plus, would produce enormous levels of low bass in such a small room but both subs are very large and I guess space is at a premium in that room of yours.

SVS does do a much smaller sealed box sub, the SB12, which is tiny in comparison - small enough that you could fit 2 of them without any trouble - and cheaper than either of the subs that you've mentioned.

Out of the ones you've mentioned, both the Velo and B&W are excellent quality subs but the Velo has that cool bass management system built in. Of course a couple of SB12's together with an SMS-1 would be nice too.

With respect to output, yes. However, in a 12x12 room, i.e. a small room, room acoustics are going to present major problems and in that respect, multiple subs should be considered.

...true. especially if the room is in fact a perfect square or even close to square. And 2 subs would be better when a larger room is later utilized. I am waiting to add a second sub in the mix as soon as funds allow. It makes perfect sense after reading several great articles concerning bass, standing waves, balance, etc.

That Velodyne DD-12 is one hell of a sub. It is sealed, has built in room correction, has a servo feedback mechanism controlling woofer excursion (this is not something you will find on lesser subs), uses a digital amp, so doesn't generate much heat. Plus, the Velodyne DD series has garnered outstanding professional and user reviews. I would give that Velodyne some serious consideration.

In fact, if money is not an issue, I wouldn't hesitate getting two of the Velodynes. There is something to be said about having stereo bass...
