I've had my current 5.1 home theater system since 2005. A few months ago I upgraded my receiver, a Yamaha RX-A1070 and now I'm considering an upgrade of my subwoofer, a Klipsch RW-12. My other speakers are Klipsch as well ,fronts RF-35, center RC-35 and surrounds RS-35. The RW-12 sounds ok but would an upgrade give me that much better performance. My budget is $1000. I understand this is a subjective question but any help/opinions would be appreciated.

Do not get another Klipsch subwoofer. They just don't perform like the brands Jay posted until you get into some dollars. I'm a huge fan of SVS and Hsu for subwoofers. They're legit.

I'm with Pogre, investing dollars should go to best in class subs if possible.
Hsu and SVS for the money you are talking are great choices.

What volume space does the sub need to fill? Might be time to consider dual subs. If you have some time and diy skills you can do very well that way, too....

My main home theater room is about 2400 cubic feet but is open to a small kitchen on one end and a small entry foyer on the other. There is also a 7 by 7 Foot staircase space that leads to upstairs. That is open to a room upstairs that is about 2000 cubic feet. Thanks for all the responses so far.

at $1k, I would look at one of the Hsu 15"s or Rythmik 15" for a single sub system, or two Hsu VTf-2 mk5s or Monoprice Monolith 10" THX subs for a dual sub system.
