Subwoofer Settings

I want to bypass the crossover on my DT Supercube I and use my Denon AVR1611 to manage my bass (articles I'm reading recommend this). I'm utilizing the LFE input on sub. Receiver sub settings are set to LFE and 80 Hz. On the back of the sub I have 3 knobs: Variable Phase Alignment, Variable Low Pass Crossover and Variable High Pass Crossover. What do I set these knobs to if my goal is to bypass the sub's crossover functionality? Much thanks!

Often simply using the sub's LFE input will bypass the crossover or low pass filter (which is all most have); the high pass filter wouldn't matter unless you have speakers connected to your sub. Try phase at 0 degrees to start. You can set the low pass to it's maximum setting if you want to make sure you're bypassing it. Are your speakers also set to small now? Did you rerun Audyssey?

Thank you HD Lover. I did read this article, however, it didnt explain the low and high pass filter, while most subs have one crossover dial. Thanks for the clarification here. Yes, I have all my speakers set to small, I have DT Pro Monitor 1000's for front and rears. I set them at 100 Hz. I have never run the Audessey! I should, huh.

You'll be in for a pleasant surprise if/when you do. I really like what Audyssey does for my system with room correction.

You just said you had the crossover in the avr as 80, now you changed it? Or are you thinking that the LPF of LFE is a speaker crossover? If so, it's not. Keep in mind a crossover is the application of a low pass filter for the sub and a high pass filter for the speakers....it's just one point in the Denon for speaker crossover.

Some subs do call the low pass filter dial a crossover, which often isn't true unless the sub has a high pass filter (and many don't, or it is very limited in function).

I'd run Audyssey, it will help you set the proper gain level on the sub and set the distance (delay) properly for your speakers at your seating position as well as levels. Unless you did this manually with test tones and an spl meter or something. You may want to raise the sub level afterwards, many add 3dB to the sub level.
