Subwoofer reflection surface?

I just ordered an HSU sub and my listening area
has a carpeted floor.

Would the sub's performance be highly optimized by putting a hard,
reflective mat underneath it? I'm concerned about the carpeting
absorbing the sub's effectiveness.

Thanks.

That's a negative. If you put something hard underneath it you are likely to get some unwanted resonances. So basically, you'll be boosting certain frequencies while the other's remain the same which is exactly the opposite of what you want ideally. Ideally you want a flat frequency response from the sub, it is likely you won't achieve without room treatment, but you will definitely get further away by doing what you suggested.

At the frequencies that a sub plays, carpet is sonically transparent.

Thanks Y'all.

I'm getting the entire system from various points all at one time, in one UPS pile.
I'm really looking forward to this!! hehe :D

I got my STF-2 2 weeks ago. The manual actually says it's designed to be on carpet, and if you have HW or tile floors you should put a heavy throw rug under the sub. Enjoy your new system!
