Subwoofer recommendations

I am asking for some advice on a Subwoofer below $600.00. I would love to spend more, but the wife is not budging on the price. I have a Onkyo HT-SR800 reciever, 2 Infinity Beta 50's(fronts), 2 Infintiy Beta 20's(rears) and a Polk CSi330(center). My living room is 23 ft x 19ft. I am currently using the Onkyo Sub that came with the system and am not happy with it at all. Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Chappy

Thank you for the reccomendations. I forgot to ask a question about tile flooring in my room. I have read a few posts here that state that a bottom firing sub is not the most efficeint with tile floors. Is this true and should I take that into consideration? I don't want to put carpet down beneath the sub. So would I get a better sound from a front firing sub on tile floor?

Thanks,
Chappy:)

Don't worry about your flooring. Down firing or front firing are both fine. Buy the best subwoofer you can get that suits your needs, and do not worry about that at all.

I will vouch for a HSU STF 2. It's $349 and really cranks. I appreciate that this sub is not a one-note pounder, but is pleasantly musical, extends into the mid 20 Hz region and mates well with my Yamaha receiver. In my 12 X 15 room, it has enough bottom for anything. My recent evening with Cloverfield rocked the 2nd floor of my house all the way from the basement.

All I have to say is WOW!!! I plugged my HSU VTF-2 MK3 in last night and gave it a workout with War of the Worlds. I only had the volume set a half way and let me tell you I was completely pleased with it. My wife swore that if it was too loud that it was going back lol. To my pleasure what she thought she would hear she felt instead and now acutally likes the new Sub. I have it in a room that is 23ft x 19ft and one side is open to the kitchen. The whole room was shaking the sound was so real that a movie that never really scared me a whole lot was giving me chills now lol. I still have a little work to do on placement and fine tuning my system now to the new room, but this sub is awsome. I would like to thank you all once again on the great advice it has really paid off and made me very happy.

Thanks,
Chappy

The SVS PB12-NSD is $657 shipped to your door. Outstanding sub, and you save three bucks on your price threshold. :D Plus SVS is quick and their customer service is stellar.
