Subwoofer Recomdendations and Opinions

Hey All,

Long time forum reader, first time poster. I am currently working on putting together my HT project and was looking for some opinions and feedback on subwoofers. My system currently consists of Monitor Audio Silver RS6's for the mains and a RS LCR for the center channel. The room is 14 x 15 with a vaulted ceiling that starts at 9FT and goes up to 13FT (makes it hard to calculate the cubic feet). I have come up with a few that I am considering but was curious if I am looking in the right direction or if anyone has first hand experience with them to give pros and cons (if any). One consideration I do have is that it can't be to overly large (need wife approval) and not cost more (ideally) then 1K.

Here is what I have come up with, in no particular order:

Martin Logan - Abyss
Outlaw Audio - LFM-1 Plus
SVS - SB12-Plus
HSU Resarch - VTF-3 MK2

Thank you,

-Jason

Well, you have 2310cuft in there:D
I would suggest one of the last two subs with the newer Mk3 version.

I'd start with one of the last two also. Good choices.

don't forget to research Axiom EP500. it's pretty small (relatively speaking) and does pretty well in my 2600 cu.ft. room.

Everyone,

Thanks for the feedback. Seems the majority is for the SVS or the HSU. I myself would be leaning more towards the SVS since it is a small form factor (easier to pass by the wife). In going that way would I be drastically changing the sound quality I would get from the HSU?

Come on now...separate the triangle(wedge I guess) and the square(cube) and find the volume of each. I know mtry did it already, but you gotta use that noggin.:D

Jason,

Congrats on your new purchase. Like Greg, I'd appreciate it if you'd update this thread with your thoughts on the SB12-Plus once you have a chance to check it out. I've been considering getting that sub for my room. Thanks.

Congrats on the purchase. I'm sure you'll be as happy as me w/o the "how the hell to I get that thing moved" face I had w/ my nsd/2.

Enjoy!

HSU VTF1 or Axiom EP125 ?

While we are waiting for the verdict on the PB-12, anyone have thoughts or an opprtunity to compare the HSU and the Axiom ?

Price is about the same shipped.

I've got a screwy room like yourself. Pretty much a house shape, square split in half kitchen and living room. With the ceiling a triangle shape with 5 foot slope height. I swear the bass sounds the best in the shower.

yep...when I did the "crawl for bass" the most bass is in the pantry of the kitchen. When I put my sub in there it kept knocking my fruit loops in the floor so I moved it back into the living room...hehehehehe

Hey Guys,

Been super busy with work and house remodel so haven't had a lot of time for cruisin the net... :D :D

I have received the sub and in short could not be happier. Both using the sub musically and for movies it has not disappointed and I haven't even spent the nessacary time to get the unit dialed in correctly. Once I get some more free time and do the "crawling for bass" I can't even imagine how good it will sound.
