Hey everyone, first time poster..............what are the prevailing opines on Definitive Technology subwoofers? Per my extensiove research, it has become clear that (SVS, JL Audio and Velodyne subs) are 3 of the best brands available today...........lastly can I have some feed back on the (Aperion Audio Bravus 8D-Dual 8' or 10' Powered Subs)?..........Oh one more question, please someone explain to me how I can create/select an Avatar to add to my profile....thanks to all in advance.

The four subwoofer manufacturers that I would put on my list are Elemental Designs, Hsu Research, and SVSound and possibly Epik. But just as critical is sizing the subwoofer for your space. Do some measurements (in cubic feet) of the entire space and not just the listening area. You need to include any spaces that open onto the listening space. Then contact each of the above and have them size your sub for you.

Following the "buy the most sub you can" credo, if you can even POSSIBLY stretch your budget $50, $800 will get you a Hsu VTF-3 MK3 (shipping included). If you could REALLY stretch, you could get an Epik Empire ($900 or so shipped), but that's quite a bit above budget.

If you can't stretch at all, I'd recommend the Hsu VTF-2 MK3 (around $600 shipped) or SVS PB12-NSD ($650 or so shipped). I've never dealt with Elemental Designs, but their return policy doesn't seem as generous (Hsu and SVS both give you around a month of in-home audition).

I don't think you can possibly go wrong with any of these choices.

My two cents.

If your room isn't huge, Rythmik is also worth a look.

+1 on Hsu Research, SVS, and Elemental Designs. I have had no contact with an Epik product recently.

One of those three companies has a product that will fill your need for the best price available. No need to shop elsewhere unless you wanna DIY and build the mother yourself.

I used to own a Hsu VTF-2. I currently own an eD A2-300 12" ported, and an A7s-450 18" sealed (I'm selling the A2-300 to a friend). I could not be happier with the products. Period. SVS makes a solid sub as well...I've heard the PB-12 NSD and it was righteous as well.

Stay away from store brands like Velodyne. JL audio makes amazing products, but they are over-priced. Unless impressing your father in-law is a primary goal, I would rule-out JL audio as well.
