I have a 15" JBL 350 watt sub. It's about 4-5 yrs old now and it now pops every once in awhile while in use during movies or music. This will happen at any volume level, but more-so when it is louder.

I turned the bass boost off on my reciever and the output level way down. Still pops. I have it on a monster sub cable and running off of a sony reciever.

Is my amp getting bad on my sub, is it the reciever, what? I take really good care of it and don't use it much.

Suggestions? Thx

hmmm, the only thing i could think of is it's interference. When my speakers pop, it's often due to an electrical device turning on or off, such as a microwave.

No, it's a lot like that, but not because of external devices like a microwave.

The JBL site says my input volume is too high to the sub and it causes it to pop. But turning the input volume way down and letting the amp on the sub make up the difference still causes the pops.

There aren't a lot, just when it's at a medium-high volume and more-so during intense base moments. It's been working pretty good lately, but still when I get a pop it makes me frown ;)

ah, it could be clipping, try turning down the input volume to the sub as far as possible, and let the amp in the sub power the sub. Also, if your amp has a preamp out, try hooking the sub up to that. The amp in the sub should have a crossover to filter out the higher noises.

I'm using the LFE channel out of my reciever and going to the sub. I turned the bass down to -3 on the reciever w/o bass boost and it still does it. When I first got the sub I could go +10 and bass boost and shake the house. Not sure what changed.

I'll try to turn down the input more and some other adjustments. Thx
