Subwoofer placement below LR Mains

I've seen this in quite a few setups where people have their subs directly below their LR mains. I'm guessing in most rooms this isn't ideal for the best coverage but.......Could you then cross much higher for that midbass authority and, perhaps later down the line, put 1 or 2 more in the rear to even the bass response out? Just wondering if people like to cross their subs higher than the usual 80hz.

Yes, you can use this type of placement to have much higher crossovers without a localization penalty. As you say, it isn't optimal placement for addressing room modes, but if you can take care of that with other subs, it is fine.

I went to a higher crossover with my setup. I’ve got large towers with my subs set beside them in the front of the room. I was having a big issue with crossovers set to 80 went back to 100 and actually set to 120 hz sounds the best I could not tame the booming deep bass it was muddy and just didn’t seem tight . This cured it for me in my room .
