Subwoofer picking up radio

I have a logitech z5500 (5.1 speaker system) speaker set and since I bought it i have been hearing my subwoofer recieve radio; it is muffled but the noise is clearly coherent. I have looked, through google,on the web for solutions but those mentioned do not work or are not understood by me. I have a surge protected power supply to which the sub connects ruling out the signal coming from the line (or so i assume from what i've read) so any other solutions would be appreciated.

PS the system is set up with a computer on a hercules 7.1 card, I have no other probs with the system.

Try messing with the cables. One of them is probably acting as an antenna. FM radio antennas are simply long wires.

re:messing with cables

Do you mean rearranging the cables? if so which ones:-since this is a 5.1 system some wires are at fullxtension, i dont see how i can move them
thx for help

You'll have to do the investigative work. No one else can do that for you. But since it's coming out the subwoofer, the subwoofer cable might be a good place to start.

Are your Z-5500's still under waurantee? If so, I'd simply return them and request a new kit. Perhaps the controller box is acting as a receiver. I also agree that cabling must be considered an issue. By the way, you made a great choice in buying these speakers. For the size they do an amazing job, especially when they go on sale once in a while.........Lee

I had the same issue but I knew the source of the "radio". It was my neighbor's CB. I could hear him transmit but the incoming was too faint to pickup. Could this be your issue? My neigbor has a base station with a large antenna and a amplifier to talk over long distance not sure how that works out to come through the sub but it sure did. Hope it helps. Curt

I have a Klipsch sub that I bought in the mid 90's. It does the same thing. It's strange because where I live now, I know what is causing it. There is a radio tower within a couple of miles of my house, and that is the station it picks up. The kicker is that where I used to live there was no radio tower near, and it still picked up a radio signal, but not always. It is always very faint, adn can really only be heard when the room is silent.

Within the last year I have chnaged my sub cable and all wiring for my system. I am interested to see if anyone has had success in dealing with this issue.

cables

Well i cant b bothered to return them since its not that big of a deal; no one nearby has any antenna i know of, but i live in central london so i could well bewrong. Will pursue the cable route; i am quite willing to do the work but need to know two things, how can i check whether my cables are acting as antennae: i figure just disconnect each connection and see if the signal continues
secondly if a wire is the cause does anyone know any good stores in europe oruk where i can buy good quality cables-ive looked myself but the sites ive found tend to sell by foot etc etc and im not sure exactly the terminology im looking for
thx a lot to everyone for ther help
