Just looked it up. Looks like the price is right but how would it stack up against the other two soundwise? it says its got a 200 watt amp. I used to have the JBL s-12 and it recently blew. it was around two years old and ready to get replaced. I loved how it sounded. Now I need a replacement but dont want to loose any of the sound I used to have in my sub.

Its built really well, and sounds really good. It is about the same as the Cadence, I think thew driver is a little heavier than the cadence. I don't know much about the JBL.

I got one of these, and used it to review some other BIC speakers. I was really impressed. It doesn't go below 20hz, but it plays everything else pretty well. It's no SVS or HSU though.

I agree with this. I am no expert, but have had a 10 inch powered BIC sub for about 5 years. The thing is awesome. It compares (with my ears) to some other $500 subs I've hear. A lot of folks recommend the Dayton as a cheap sub from partsexpress.
My friend was over with a RTA laptop setup and it goes quite low.
I will buy another BIC (maybe two :D ) when I do my basement, regardless of how much money I have to spend on it because I like them and think they are a great value for the money.

I've got the XSUB12, and it hits extremely hard. It's actually too much for my room, as it rattles everything in the house. I've taken it apart. Here's a photo of the amp. It's massive, and the magnet is 70oz. It doesn't go as low as the bass in my truck, but it's right up there with the BIC. The three listed are the best deals for 12" subs. My only upgrade would be to an SVS, which I'll be visiting their showroom on 7/22. I'd say Cadence overdid it with the woofer and amp, and under did it with the size of the box. They are known for their car amps and subs, so it's built like a tank. I think they sacraficed the bottom end with the size of the box. Heck, it still weighs close to 50lbs!

.....Brian, is that rubber-surround on the 12 inch subwoofer?.....it looks it, but.....
Yes it is a butyl rubber surround, the sub is built extremely well.

It was about the best I could find for that price that would hit 25hz.

I love this sub, and it to (like above poster) hits way harder than my room can handle.

The amp on the sub is turned just over half way. And on the reciever it is set at -9 to -10db. Clearly loud and low enough for me.

However, I do like the look of the 900.00 SVS sub. Humm, upgrade already.
Well, maybe when I am drunk enough.....

Can you post a picture of the whole sub, for some reason the cadence website isn't loading the picture on my pc, for the $230 and free shipping I can buy two of those vs. one SVS 10"....2 has gotta be better than one right?

That's what I thought, too. I was going to buy one, then get another one for "stereo" bass. Guess what. One turned out to be more than enough for my room. I'm tempted to take it to the SVS showroom on the 22nd to see how pathetic it is next to their giants (This sub is only 16.5"w X 15.5"d x 17.5"h but weighs 49 pounds.) It's very WAF friendly. It's not really a fair comparison at it's price point, but who cares. And see, I told you I took it apart. There's the amp. Check out the size of the power supply. It's a beefy s.o.b. If it didn't have carpet spikes, it would probably walk itself across my room.

Here's two more pictures of it next to my Design Acoustic 10" 6-ohm passive sub and Polk RTi10 tower. The DA is for the basement system. The Cadence surround is heavy ga. butyl rubber.

Looks like a sweet set up buckeye. i was looking at the e 250 but I am a little weary about the northridge series from JBL. The Super Professional All Knowing Audio Technitions from Best Buy Didnt have good things to say about the Northridge series. Doesnt make sence since thats the only line they have from JBL. they were trying to steer me towards Klipsh. I know that isnt the best frame of referance for a purchase but it still left a bad taste in my mouth.
For 100 dollars less than the JBL s-12op I think Ill go for the Cadence. If there are any left!!!

I was looking at the Cadence sub and stumbled on this.

the price is right. at 329 it looks too good to be true.
Any thoughts?
Nothing is too good to be true. A 5.0 set of BIC (4 dv62si's and one 62clrs) is the same price. It's not going to be a set of Axioms, but definitely a nice starter set. These are the types of sets that would be great to see demo'd. Nice spl (95dB), and the towers are 43.5" H x 8" W x 12" D. Not the deepest - but nice and tall. For the price, it sure beats a HTIB. Oh, just noticed - free shipping. That's a bonus.

I just dont know about the 3" x 6" woofers in that cadence setup, dont know how that would sound in a home theater setup, only reason they use odd shapes like that in cars is to cram the biggest surface area of a speaker into the space, so when you building your own cabinets why not just put the matching 6.5" woofer in the surrounds and center like the tower has?

Another problem with the Cadence set is the tweeter in the center channel is different from the tweeter in the floorstanders. This will cause problems in timbre matching. Still better than HTIB i'm sure.

Other than the cover, I think they're all 1" silk soft dome tweeters. These aren't cheap speakers at $558. You still need a dvd player, a receiver, and interconnects. That setup would run you, minimum, $1100. For someone new (or a young gun) in the A/V market, $1100 is a bit of cash. Now someone go buy and demo it for us. ;)
