Subwoofer making loud noise

Last night I was talking with my wife and mother in law and we thought there was a LOUD motorcycle out front. It turns out it was my Dayton subwoofer. So i unplugged it and it stopped. Plugged it in several different sockets and it made the same noise. I even tried taking out the rca cable that went to the sub inputs and plugged it in and it still made the sound. I took the sub out and the wires were hooked up fine... not touching any metal to metal. So what do you guys think happened?

I am not really sure but I am kinda thinking ground loop. Search the forums and internet for "ground loops" and see if it fits your situation, and there should be hints on how to stop it.

You're not sure what happened huh? I changed the subwoofer but the new subwoofer did the same thing!

You may have something wrong with the amp in the sub. Sounds like you're getting amplified transformer noise to me (just a guess).

When your amp is on the transformer hums plus you get AC noise. I think there are electronics on board that filter out that noise (capacitiors and such). Maybe you have some bad caps? I'd get a new amp.

I'd call Parts Express, they are usually good about things like that. It is almost certainly a failing amp.

My sub makes a loud noise too.

Clearly the amp has failed, and has become unstable and is oscillating. It is impossible to know what the problem is without putting a scope round the unit on the test bench.
