Question for those of you that love subwoofers. I have a subwoofer that sits on the bottom of an audio rack. The rack is some kind of hard plastic open to all sides. I took out the bottom shelf and it fits in there quite nice. I was wondering if moving it out on to the rooms carpeting would improve the sub's sound or not? The rack is on one side of my TV and I was thinking about moving the sub to the other side. Need some input before I go and move things out and unhook and relocate. Thanx:D

The placement in the room is important. The best way to find where it is best is to move it around, usually corner placement tends to work well.

Corner loading is usually not the way to go if you want uniform bass response for a wide listening area. In fact, we recommend using 2 or 4 subs symmetically placed in the room relative to the listening area.

We have many articles on this topic to help you out with subwoofer placement such as:

If you want bass response to be the best at your seating position, put the sub where you sit, play some bass tones and crawl around the room, where the sound is the loudest and most uniform, this is where you should put your sub. It usually ends up being the opposite corner from where you sit.

what about crawling around with a spl metr and a sweep playing and look for the flattest response?

this would seem to me like a better idea because you might have, say, a massive node at 30hz and the music you chose to listen to didnt have anything at this particular frequency.

also, if you havent got the subs volume level set relitive to the mains and the subs volume is relatively low, you may choose a place on the floor with a large peak in the freq response that makes the music sound better just because its sounding louder? then when you set levels later you have too big a peak.

i'm no expert i warn ya, just thinking aloud here(at 6:30 in the morning aswell) cheers
