I have a Pioneer Elite 55txi and a polk PSW 650 sub. I have the sub connected to the subwoofer jack on the pioneer and to the LFE input on the back of the sub. The probelm (not sure if it is a problem or not) i am having is that when i turn the receiver on i get a thud out of the sub. When i change the audio source from tv to dvd i get another thud out of the sub. If the receiver is turned on and set to dvd and then i turn the dvd player on i get a thud out of the sub. Why/what would be causing a thud to come out of the sub when switching sources on the receiver, could it be a hookup issue or maybe a bad cable. i am now using 14/4 cable with bananas at the receiver end for those speakers and the fact that i have 2 laptop power supplies plugged into the same surge protector as my sub...everything else is the same, with the exception of the house...

Have you contacted Polk about this?
Usually you get a thud if the speaker and its amp is on before other components, and a component turn on creates a quick spike, but once they are on and just switched to other inputs, that should just not happen.

I had what sounds to be the same issue. It was with my Pioneer 1014tx. I got a large subwoofer thud whenever I would turn off the reciever. When I talked to the repair shop they knew exactly what it was. I believe they said it was a capacitor discharging in the Pioneer receiver. They had it fixed in a few days and have not heard a subwoofer thud since.

I have not contacted polk, the sub is out of warranty so i doubt they would do anything about it.

farscaper...When you were experiencing this issue did you get a thump when you would change the audio source (ie from dvd to sat or cd)as well? How much were the repairs? Did they say if there is any harm in a capacitor discharging?thanks

This sounds more like a receiver issue than a subwoofer issue.

Most receivers mute the output for a few seconds upon startup and, I think, mute all output during switching just to prevent this type of thing.

The poor sub is just doing it's job, which is to reproduce what's sent to it.

From above, sounds like a receiver issue, not working as it should, muting when it should.

It was described the same as markw stated. I got a thump turning the receiver ON and OFF. I don't believe it did when changing sources. The bill was about $150. The thump was big. It shook the walls. What started it all was a power failure. A large tranformer blew up at one of the substations and cut power to a few communities. My kids were watching a Dora DVD. The receiver got messed up.

i had this issue with my pioneer 10i receiver with the pop sound to the sub, twice i sent back for repair. it was clearly the muting issue with the receiver.
