subwoofer issue with ysp3000

I recently got a ysp 3000 and planned to use the subwoofer that I already had. It is just a yamaha sw015. I had it hooked straight to the tv before getting the ysp and it was actually very loud. Now with the ysp, the sub is barely heard at all. Sometimes it wont even come out of auto standby, or it will go into auto standby while a movie is playing. What gives?

It sounds like the output level of your tv was much higher than the ysp 3000. Have you tried boosting the sub level in the ysp? Can you actually do that?.

Hi, Sean. I'll flip through the manuals later tonight and see if anything stands out to me. I'll post again once I've done that.

There are some things that I'd like to mention because I don't know if you've already done them all or not. None of them are meant to sound patronizing - I'm just trying to cover the bases.

Some questions:
  1. When you got the YSP-3000, did you move the sub or other hardware to different positions?
  2. Did you go through the auto set-up routine on the YSP-3000 with the sub attached, and/or do the manual set-up of the sub in the YSP-3000 menus?

Some comments/suggestions:
  1. Make sure that you aren't using any of the night listening enhancer modes on the YSP-3000.
  2. On the subwoofer, set the "HIGH CUT" dial to the highest setting, which I think is 150Hz. You don't want the sub to cut out any frequencies because the YSP-3000 is already doing the bass management.
  3. Make sure that the cable between the YSP-3000 and the sub is connected securely. You may even want to try a different one if nothing else here works.
  4. Double-check the volume setting on the subwoofer and adjust as necessary.
  5. Try switching the phase switch on the sub, but I wouldn't think that would be a factor unless you had moved things around between the two set-ups.

Just some thoughts. If you would, please let us know if you get things working the way that you want it. Thanks.
