Essentially, but you'd like to used a shielded cable to avoid any type of interference that might introduce hum or unwanted noise in the signal going from the Onkyo to the DefTech.

Good suggestion going w/Monoprice, just received an HDMI and component cable from them just they other day. Good quality cables at a hard to beat price... -TD

Well, yes. Maybe. Maybe not. What OUTPUT on the receiver are you running the cable from?

Don't assume the receiver is intelligent enough to always route all the bass to an LFE out to the subwoofer. Especially in non-5.1 (stereo) modes, or if you are using 5.1-channel out of your disc player into analog 5.1 inputs on the receiver, the bass may never get to an LFE out. Stupid, but true.

You'll need to get a test tone CD, or download a test tone and burn to a disc or something, and check that you really get bass out of every source & mode.

And of course, have your speakers all set to "small" even if they're not. Otherwise, only the LFE from a 5.1 mix will go to your sub, and the "normal" bass will go to your main speakers

The only output available - subwoofer pre-out. The receiver is smart enough to route bass (not just 'LFE') to the sub pre-out when it is configured properly with subwoofer set to Yes and other channels set to Small.
