Well, I just purchased a a brand new system today. I picked up the following:

Yamaha RX-V2500 $869 CDN
Energy C-200 for mains $320 CDN
Energy C-50 for rears $150
Energy C-C50 cenyer for $140

I think I got a pretty good deal, I don't know. I have it all set up but have not used the YPAO as my Energy speakers say to break them in before turning them up too loud. Is this true?
I really want to test these out!!

Now I do not have a subwoofer. My wife was ready to kill me when I told her I needed to buy one, anyways, I really need one as this system certainly lacks the bass.
Some have suggested SVS and HSU, however, that is not in the budget now. Can you recommend anything in the $300 - $500 range (CDN) that might complement my setup or am I dreaming?

A HSU is right in your price range. So is an SVS PB10, I'd go with the HSU, I guess it's a much better deal for you guys in the great white north.

You can get an HSU STF-2 for around $500 cad plus tax, really good bang for the $$$ and not too big. Also keep an eye on Futureshop, they carry Velodyne subs and sometimes the DPS-12 dips below $500 and is a decent sub up here at that price. To find a local HSU dealer go to hsuresearch.com and ask for the Canadian distributor info. That distributor can give you a list of authorized dealers. $400-$500 Cad is a pretty tight budget, but with some careful shopping you'll do fine.

What happened to the C-3 and CC-1 system? Although, this one looks to cost less.

I agree with the previous posters. Hsu is your best bet. STF-2 would give a great performance. The Velodyne DPS-12 is only worth it if its around $450 or less. I picked one up for $399 on christmas day.

Good luck with your sub hunting,

I had to save a few bucks, so I didn't go with the C3's. (Mandate from the wife) A&B Sound also did not have the matching center channel for the C3's, I would have had to order it in from Ottawa, which I didn't want to really do, so I made the sacrafice and bought the above system.
Sheep, it sounds like you like the C3's better than these ones. How come?

Those from Canada, check out this link. Seems to have pretty good deals, for Canada anyways:

This is where I got my pricing on the 2500 and just A&B match it then beat it!!!

They are better speakers. But, they also cost more. I have heard the C line and I liked how they sound, but they were not as good as the C-3s IMO.

Those prices are alright. But its in Ottawa. The A&Bsound here has the CC-1 for 200bucks right now(very limited stock). I'm very tempted to get it, but I just spent 450 on a subwoofer.

Hi,

Just bought my Yamaha RXV2500 a month ago.... Thought I had the best deal in Canada... Got it for $875 here in Montreal.....

Ah! well !!! BTW, don't get too exited with the YPAO...... Results I had made no sense to say the least... For example, according to my receiver, my subwoofer was 12 feet away.......in my parking !!!!! Plus, the crossover was set at 200 mhz... I usually put mine at 60....

Anyway, I prefered taking the time to program the amp manually.... Results are a lot better..... I just love my Yam... If you take the time, I am sure you'll enjoy it....Pure Direct fonction give great result in music listening...

As for the sub, beside the HSU, the Axiom is also very well recommended...Yamaha also has one within your price range...

Good luck with your wife :D

i got that deal on the Energy C-C1 from a&b and have enjoyed it immensly compared to my old xl-c100 center. This one is much better at dailog especially. But both the A&B sounds in Winnipeg closed down last year.
