Maybe a bad rca cable/jack....but what do you mean by fiddle around? You're messing with connections with gear turned on? If not fiddling do you get hum or thumps?

Wont be the reciever or cable as it works on my current subs amd when I fiddle around I dont get proper bass just a loud thump or high frequency buzz but with speaker wire input no issue what I think means its not the plate amp

What do you mean by fiddle around? I think you need to explain a bit more what you're doing and with what....how old is this sub? It was working properly before?

I have a denon x2400h .. the sub is a energy s12.3 if I unhook my current sub and plug in energy using rca cable I get no sound but of I fiddle rca I can get a few thumps or buzzing.. but if I unplug my front speaker and plug the wires Into the sub works perfect

Did this sub work just before this via rca jack or is it a new-to-you sub? By fiddle you mean you're pushing on the rca jack/cable assembly or ? OTOH if the high level speaker connections work that just limits your use of sub content from the avr as it is meant to use the sub pre-out rather than speaker level connections.

Why are you "fiddling" and making it thump and hum? Does it work like it should when unfiddled? The way you're wording it, to me, it sounds like you're doing something that's a big no-no... no fiddling with the power on!

I bought a bunch of stuff at auction this was one of them .. and yes I pushing the cable around lol it cost me like 35 bucks so if I kill it completely oh well its unusable to me as is since I already have a 7.2 set up I was hoping to upgrade my one sub but I cant use the speaker wire unless I can go sub preout to speaker wire adapter

Might take off the sub amp and see if it's simply a jack/connection issue inside....don't know if cutting off one end of the rca and using as speaker output level inputs will work....

Huh. Maybe a bad gain pot? Could be the input stage is cooked? Hard to say.
