Subwoofer Headaches?

My Daughter claims to get headaches when the subwoofer is turned on, even when she is in the next room. The volume is pretty low - below speaking level. Has anyone else had this experience? I am at 16 Hz tune now and I am switching to 20 Hz next. Are the headaches from infrasonic bass or just low bass or just an excuse to get the subwoofer/HT turned off?

Certain people can be very sensible to certain frequencies. I know I do in the upper mids. Heck, a woman even claimed that Sean Paul's voice gave her a seisure. There's a thread on that story here on audioholics.

I did have one last weekend after listening to some bass heavy stuff (Bass, I Love You for example). I had it cranked up really loudly as well. That song has some deep subsonic bass (10 Hz), and the Ultra was literally blowing my hair at a distance of about 6 feet in front of the woofer. It was for short duration, but the two could be related. That sub is incredible.

It's possible it's coincidence though because I now have a cold, and I could have been coming down with it on Saturday.

I have personally experienced headaches with my sub on. So much so that I can't watch a 2 hour movie all the way through with it on. I don't know if this is from the sound that my particular sub makes or a problem in general, guess I should do some reading on it. But I do know what mouettus says is true, some peoples hearing is sensitive to certain frequencies, similar to how a dog will howl in discomfort to certain pitches such as dog whistles (mine is sensitive to any D on a piano or a flute)

It's possible as I've seen it with a few people.

Hey Mud, get back to the Steam Vent will ya! :D

She plans to go away to college in a year and a half. In the mean time if 20 Hz tuning doesn't fix it, then 25 Hz tuning will come next.

Hey, it's a small price to pay for a great sub. :D
