This is for my car's system, but I figure the idea should be the same be it mobile or home.

I was on elemental designs website looking at their custom boxes for subs, and saw that they make them of either EFS or MDF.

Anyone know the differences I would expect to see between the two? Anyone actually have any experience with the two different materials? Reviews? thanks in advance

MDF is used in the VAST majority of speaker builds. Why?

Because its cheap, readily available, easy to work with, and has good acoustical properties.

ESF is essentially 'HDF' or high-density fiberboard. Its more dense MDF.

If you can find it for the same price, have at it.

I doubt you'll hear an iota of difference bewteen the two materials, all else equal.

Use birchwood ply. It's lighter, stiffer and holds a screw better get the 11 or 13 if you can.

The birch ply also has a nice finish on it, just remember to caulk the inside seams when ya put it together.
