Subwoofer dilemma...

Looking to add a subwoofer to an existing fullrange speaker setup....

I have a cd source with rca to a tvc volume control to a tube amp to fullrange speakers now.

Tvc really improves the sound by allowing me to set cd volume to the max, ( no resistors in path or no bit loss) and use the tvc instead. How do I get a signal to a subwoofer amp?

Splitting rca's or speaker level to line converters would degrade the sound.
My cd player has an optical output. With the cd volume on max I think I can take the optical output of the cd player to a 20db optical in line attenuator to a fiio dac optic to rca converter outputs. This should reduce the 1.4 vrms of the fiio d3 rca outputs to about 100mv needed for rca inputs on a lot of home subamps.

Why would splitting the rca signal degrade the sound?
