So here's my latest adventure-turned-fiasco into the world of very very cheap speakers:
I'm working on an audio system for my college apartment (which means saving money wherever I can) so I got a Motorola DCP-501 reciever/dvd player, which I really like other than the fairly loud noise the dvd player makes while playing. The thing I don't like so much are the Pioneer S-HTD 330 speakers I got to go with it. Having never bought such inexpensive speakers before (I also set up my family's home theater, on which no cost was spared) I was unprepared for the subwoofer that came with it. It's unpowered, but only has one set of inputs and no output, so I can neither plug it into an outlet nor route right and left audio through it, and then to their respective speakers. My receiver has no "sub out" in the standard audio cable format, only the RCA sub out that powered subs use.
Right now I have the left audio going into the sub, then right back out to the speaker. I know this isn't the right thing to do, but I can't think of any other way to get sound out of this thing.
I can't imagine that pioneer would build a sub that can't be used, but I'm at a total loss as to how to make this system work properly.
I would deeply appreciate any solutions that don't involve me buying a whole new subwoofer, and thanks in advance for tolerating my stupidity!
