I have two subs. One sub was clipping even though they were on similar settings. I replaced it and now the new one easily clips. The other sub is still good. They are Martin Logan 1100x’s. Is one just not getting enough power from the wall? Help!
I assume you are not hearing it clip, but the clip indicator lights up. Is that correct? The next question is can you be certain both subs are receiving the same signal?
If the answer to the latter is correct, then it is probably the one that does not light the clip indicator that is faulty. In other words the clip indicator on that sub is not working correctly.
Sealed subs clip easily. I'm known here for trying to discourage sealed subs. The reason is that the driver has no acoustic transformer and only the driver cone couples to the air. So you end up with very poor native low frequency response. So you then have to bring up the low end with huge amounts of bass boost which consumes a lot of amp power and stresses the driver. So it is very common to clip sealed subs unless they cost a King's ransom. It requires enormous amp power and driver systems to handle that power and a driver suspension with huge excursion. That is what eats away the money and limits performance if you don't pay the ransom.
