If you mean the diameter of the metal wings that grab the outer metal cylinder(ground), then if they are loose, the fix is easy to impliment using common pliers.

It's hard to see from the picture of the Radio Shack plug, but the outer ground is a thin round piece of metal that is slotted. It is a poor design compared to the Canare design.

If you buy the cable at a place like RadioShack you can either buy a preterminated cable or bulk. They will probably crimp the connectors on for you, otherwise you would need a crimp tool. The adapters, seen HERE, simply screw on.

There are also twist-on connectors, which I like best. You need no tools for those.

You can also buy crimp on RCA terminals.

The Canare is pretty, but the RS plug is perfectly functional. If you want to buy plugs for the purpose of cosmetic appeal, then I recommend the Canare over the RS unit you linked. If you want a functional plug, I recommend the lowest price of the two; or even better go to partsexpress and buy some for much lower cost than either of these.

sub cable

I have had a 15" velodyne for about five years, and have been using a 20 year old radio shack plug in it, and it was ok. I found an audioquest sub X sub cable at the store that was normally $50 but the box had been opened and they had it marked down to $25 so I bought it, and did hear a noticable improvment in the subs overall sound. I know most people on this site think expesive speaker cable is crap, and for the most part I would have to agree. I did buy expensive cable for my fronts, and heard little or no difference. But I did hear an improvment with the sub cable. Take it or leave. Just food for thought.
