Why do they have two kinds of subwoofer cables (SonicWave and Velocity) and why are they not reviewed together? Also, arent' subwoofer cables just the same as regular audio interconnects and the term subwoofer cable just a marketing gimmick? This is the first time you reviewed a "subwoofer cable", wouldn't it be more fair to compare this with other so-called subwoofer cables or to a reference cable to see how it holds up against the competition?

Yes if a cable is designed well it should function well when used as an audio interconnect and usually even as a video interconnect, depending on the types of shielding utilized. Usually companies market a separate video cable so it matches the color code (ie. yellow - composite, Blue/Green/Red - components).

Since I received a sample, I thought it would be cool to do a quick review. Doing face offs on sub cables, or any cables for that matter is very time consuming, and usually not worth the efforts.

Remember our mantra "Only poorly designed cables are sonically distinguishable".

Ok then, so why does Impact Acoustics sell two kinds of subwoofer cables? What's the difference? Is one better than the other or is this another marketing gimmick?

They sell two kinds of differing quality. The cheaper "Velocity" subwoofer cables feature a 100% foil shield and a spiral copper shield (spiral shields aren't too great). They also feature lower quality connectors. The "Sonicwave" subwoofer cables feature two OFC braid shields and a 100% foil shield. They have sturdy high-end connectors. Seeing how the price on the Sonicwave cables is already really really low, I can't understand why one would buy the velocity cable instead anyway.

Edit: Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that the Sonicwave cables feature silver-plated OFC conductors as well (for that beautiful, shimmering, silvery treble):p

Silvery treble, a feature not needed in a sub cable, :D

Yeah, but they use the same cable for all of the interconnect cables, so it can translate. I guess i should've said "Full, effortless bass; completely free of distortion or grain". You know, writing that trash is way too easy. Why again are those journalists paid to play with the best equipment money can buy and write cookie-cutter stuff?

Oh well. To inmypjs, Impact Acoustics isn't purshing gimmicks. While you may not get a better sound with the more expensive cable, it will keep out the RFI and EFI better as well as offer a more secure, longer lasting connection to the RCA jacks on your equipment.
