subwoofer "auto" setting driving my nuts!!!

My sapphire PSBIII subwoofer has off and auto settings. In some theatre modes and low volumes, my Yamaha 4600 doesn't send enough of a signal to keep the subwoofer on. If I boost the volume and the set it back to the original volume, there is pleanty of a signal being sent and a purpose for the woofer to be on.

I've read on the forums here that a way to avoid this is to boost the reciever signal and turn down the woofers but I don't like loosing that control from the reciever (although it is a clever suggestion).

Is it due to the fact I have two woofers coming off of a Y jack?

Can I somehow fake it by sending a signal from some magic signal sending device I've never heard of before ( hey it's worh asking;) )?

Thanks for any answers! :D

I don't like those auto on subs either:eek:
I have not heard of such a magic box to help you out:D
I would try what was suggested, turning up the trim pot on the receiver and down on the sub.

As sub design points more and more at the electronics, and as multiple subs become more popular, it is very sad that plate amps are loosing features like continuously variable phase controls and even the ability to remain on at reduced volumes.

All knowlegable consumers can do is refuse to buy such products.

There may be a solution for you. There is a basic line driver available from a company called Peripheral. It is usually about $39.00. It will take a 500 millivolt signal and amplify it up to 3 Vrms. Unfortunately it would need a 12V power supply.
