Subwoofer and reciever

I just got a Polk PSW10 floor subwoofer. I am trying to find a cheap receiver and figure out my speaker situation. First of all, I don't know what kind of wires I need, or ports I need on the receiver in order to be able to connect my sub. Also, just as a money saver I was thinking I could hook up some 6-7 year old RCA stereo speakers to it, would this work? They have the black and red polar cables. I would like to get just a basic receiver that will satisfy these needs. Any suggestions on any of this would be much appreciated!

On the back of that subwoofer [according to this jpg] you should have a left and right RCA type subwoofer input. There are also speaker level inputs and outputs. Make very certain that your potential receiver has a subwoofer out. This will make the job very easy _ trust me on this one. All you'll need to do is run an RCA connector from the receiver's sub out to the subwoofer's matching input. Use a Y connector at the subwoofer end in this case since this sub has a left and right RCA in. Make sure to switch on the subwoofer out on the receiver (wherever that is in the receiver menu). After that, adjust levels at the receiver sub out (wherever that is in the receiver menu) and also at the subs level control. You'll have to experiment to get this to your liking. That should be about it. IF your receiver does not have a subwoofer out, we got some work to do. Run a left and right set of speaker connections from the receiver speaker outs to the subwoofer speaker in. Run another set from the subwoofer to your left and right speakers. In this case, the only control you have for level is the subwoofer's level control. Hope this was helpful.
