Subwoofer and Bass Shaker to receiver connection

I have a Yamaha DSP-AX1, which is - basically - an RX-V1 without a built-in AM/FM tuner. I posted this in the receiver section vs. the sub section, becuse it has more to do with the capabilities of my receiver than it does with my sub or shakers...

I have used it for years connected to "large" speakers and bass shakers. The shakers were powered by an external amp that was connected to the receiver's stereo subwoofer output (The AX1 has three subwoofer outputs - one "stereo" pair and a seperate mono out. The stereo pair outputs stereo LF for stereo signals or two mono ".1" LFE for DD/DTS). I had the AX1'a bass management set to output LFE to both the main speakers and subwoofer/LFE outputs.

I've moved to a new house that does not have room for full-size speakers, so I've replaced them with bookshelf speakers and a subwoofer (and will change the AX1's bass management to so reflect). Now, with this new setup, will I be able to connect the shakers to the stereo subwoofer output, as before, and additionally connect my sub to the mono/.1 LFE output? Does plugging in to one disable the other? I've RTFM and it does not specify.

My options, as I see them:

1. Connect shaker amp to stereo LFE output and subwoofer to mono LFE output.

2. Use two 1M to 2F RCA Y-adapters to convert the AX1's stereo output into two stereo outputs, and connect both the shaker amp and subwoofer to these two pairs of outputs (maintaining the appropriate L/R config, which means one "arm" of each Y-adaptor will go to the respective input on the sub & shaker amp). The sub can take either a mono or stereo source (mono gets connected to left input). The shaker amp (Parts Express/Dayton Audio 100W subwoofer plate amp) does not specify if it can take mono (using only 1 input), or if a mono signal had to be split into psuedo L/R).

Option 1 is the easiest from a connection standpoint, if it works.
