Thanks to IMCloud, Jim, FirstReflection and others my 5.1 system is almost setup/complete. Want to utilize thanksgiving sales to buy a sub.
Current system setup: LG 55LM6700, Denon Receiver,Pioneer SP-FS52 towers (L&R) Pioneer SP-C22 Center, SNELL OH-T7 in ceiling speakers.

Our family room opens in the kitchen and it has tile flooring.
Family room dimensions are 20Lx17Wx9H=3060 CuFt. Including Kitchen it becomes 40LX17WX9H=6120CuFt
Usage : Watching movies (100%)

Constraints
1. My wife liked small form factor of Definitive Tech SC2000 and has indicated strong preference for similar sized sub.
2. Budget ~$500. Considering #1 constraint, I am willing to add ~100.
3. Not looking for head banging experience.
Would you please provide recommendations/point to good value deal(s).

ps: Based on earlier suggestions, I am looking at HSU VTF-2 and also accessories4less

Yeah, honestly, in your room size and with your budget, the HSU VTF-2 MK4 is about the only sub that makes sense. It does not have the super small size, but that's just the way it's going to be. There's no magic when it comes to bass reproduction. You can't cheat physics ;)

In terms of bass quality, there's no better choice available than the VTF-2 MK4 for $500-$600. HSU has the VTF-2 MK4 on sale right now, so after shipping, it comes to $582.

If your wife simply will not have a sub the size of the VTF-2 MK4, I'm not sure what to tell you. You could aim for the SVSound SB12-NSD at $649, shipping included. But it's honestly not meant for that sort of room size. You can check out Audioholics' review of the SB12-NSD to get an idea.

Physically small subs are going to be sealed. That means 100% of their output has to come from the driver, which means that driver has to move in and out like crazy, and or be a very large driver, in order to play loud enough to fill your volume of air.

I'm no fan of the Def Tech SuperCube subs. They use passive radiators, which is somewhat similar to using a port. But in the case of the SuperCubes, all they're designed to do is to play louder. They give up a lot of quality, IMO, in order to just play louder.

So yeah, if you can make the larger size of the HSU VTF-2 MK4 work for you, that's definitely the way to go, IMO. You can actually put it right beside your couch and have it function as a nice end table. And it's a perfect fit for the Auralex GRAMMA decoupling riser, which you will definitely want on that tile floor!

Speaking of which, you're going to be in some desperate need of acoustic treatments in that room. For certain, get yourself a rug - as thick as you can - to place on the bare floor in between the front speakers and your seating area. Other acoustic treatments will have to come later. Since it is a living room, the "printed art" panels from the likes of GiK Acoustics or Acoustimac are likely going to be the best way to "hide" your acoustic treatments as decoration on the walls. You can have literally any image you like printed on the panels, so they can easily double as the photos, posters or works of art that you would have hung as decoration anyway :)

In that room, you might think about the Premier Acoustic PA-150. It won't do low bass like the Hsu, but it has lots of output above 50 hz. The Hsu might struggle in that room, but for mid bass and above, the PA ought to easily pressurize that space.

Yikes...

You need 4-6 SVS PB13-ULTRA's but it doesn't look like that will be allowed, dang WAF!!!

At least talk her into one big ported sub and hide it in a corner, a little sealed sub isn't going to add much to that room. If you have to go with a little sub, place it right beside your favorite chair so at least you will have some bass while watching a movie.

My room is just a little larger than your's and two PB13-ULTRA's didn't really touch it.

P.S. I like your kitchen, your granite looks similar to ours.

Will his $600 come even close for that sub? He has that constraint as well.

Do you live in that kitchen or just a showroom? ;):D Boy, wish I could keep ours that clean and neat. ;)

That is a nice kitchen, My wife can hear if I put my wallet and keys on the kitchen counter from outside, she will do kung foo cart wheels to the kitchen and put my wallet in the drawer, then Ill forget it the next morning, but this has been going on for a decade or so, so I am almost used to it... but the kids on the other hand take constant attention, I heard her scolding one of them a few minutes ago because when she opened the drawer where the trash bins are there was a crackers wrapper that wasn't completely in the trash can, apparently this is a capitol crime...

Now the only thing you have to convince your wife of is that they call it a VTF2 because there are two of them!!!

Anyway you are very welcome, make sure and take pics when you get it all in there, and let us know what you think... Good luck

Well we moved into house a month earlier and picture was taken before moving in. Never the less, my wife too is clean-holic and cleaning stuff comes as first priority for her!

ps: English is my second language. So some times, I miss the humor/can not respond with touch of humor.

That's too much room for a $600 sub (maybe with 2). It's a simple matter of physics and a $600 sub isn't going to move enough air for that room. I'd save up for a $1300 Rythmik FV15HP. In my opinion the only way you might get away with it is to have the sub close enough to use near field like right behind the sofa but I'd save for a larger sub.
