I have an AVR5805. Which would work better for me - 1 medium or 2 small subs? If 2 which placement is suggested Left - Right or Front - Back?

Cheers,

Tim

That depends on your room size, budget, movie tastes, etc. While they won't give you ground rumbling subsonic bass, a good looking and sounding option would be pair of UFW-10s from AV123. Audioholics has a review of the subwoofer here.

I would go with one medium sized sub if you are going to listen to movies primarily, but two small subs if you are going to listen to music. But with that reciever you have, I would save up, get one small and connect it to your speakers and one large and connect it to your LFE output from your reciever.

If you could afford a denon 5805 in the first place, you should be asking, 1 extremely large sub, or 2 just large subs.

But to answer your question, I would get 1 medium sub for now and if your taste for bass increases then you can just simpley add another medium or even a large sub later on.

If you want a small sub because of placement and wife issues, I would recommend getting a velodyne splII, or a paradigm siesmic 12. Small box with big sound. Both of these subs are costly though.

Or perhaps the recently reviewed Velodyne HGS series. The higher-end velodynes are known to be fast and tight, great for music.

That's the first thing I thought of. If you have enough disposable cash to purchase that monster, you are going to want the best sub out there for your dollar. And buying a Japanese monster tells me you care about your cash moreso than name brands (I do, and I did). I have no idea on your room size, but bass is non directional. You want your sub in a corner. If your room is like mine, then corners are at a premium, meaning one sub. Why not consider one of these? For the money, you really can't beat them. Take the time to read the info on them. 2 paragraphs max. I promise.

You may not be able to handle the bass this next one puts out.

Or if you have absolutely no money left over after buying that receiver, how about this?
