In the sense of home cinema are they worth while or not? My own take on them, is that they are to powerful and only good for inducing deafness or 33 hz effects
I also dont fancy splashing out on a set of floorstanders and a centre, but to then have the sound quality compromised by a sub... for sure turn it down... but then why bother with it?

cheers

If you need to feel the impact of today's movies encoded with Pro Logic/Digital ES you defintiely need a sub woofer. Even for music the subs do a commenadable job of supplementing your large tower speakers and in case of an active sub it also gives your reciever's/amp's power circuit a break.
