Well bass for the most part is non-directional. As such, facing them towards each other does not pose a problem per se. However, in a ht environment placement is critical. Especially, when you have two or more of them. The idea is, to place the subs so that standing waves will be greatly reduced. This is why phasing is so important. Thus, when phasing is set properly the effect will reduce standing waves. That in turn, will reduce the peaks that robs one of a great(flat) bass. There are others here that can chime in better than I. Perhaps, some can explain this a bit better. Hope this is helpful to you. :);):)

Cheers,

Phil

Facing them together may cancel out the bass. Look online for recommended setup with Dolby but I think opposite sides of the room NOT facing each other is ideal.

If facing each other, you should be able to run one 180* out of phase. I imagine you would have to play with the phase quite a bit to get it right.... or, buy an Anti-Mode 8033.
