sub type, BOOM, and placement

I've been looking at my room plans and where I can put things. I'm limited on sub placement. I know there are a million threads about front vs. down firing subs, so I'll ask a specific question or two.

1.) is one better then the other when it must be placed in a corner?
2.) if placed in a corner, how much room (minimum) needs to be left from the walls? I know it all depends on the room, etc. . . . but I'm a little worried about too much boominess. I want tight cotrolled bass for music . . . so anyway you get the idea:

will one type be boomier than another in a corner? there's the direct question. thanks

oh yeah, and it will probably have to be close to the entertainment center, so it will only have really open space in front of it.

and above it too, the entertainment center is actually just a solid TV stand about the same height as the sub. so:

-wall to the left
-wall behind
-TVstand to the right

The low bass region will be accentuated with corner placement of any sub. If you listen to it and it does not sound good to you then you might want to consider a Behringer Feedback Destroyer (BFD) parametric equalizer to smooth out your subwoofer frequency response. If you are on a budget you can get a BFD 1124P for $99 but there is a learning curve to operate it. If you want something more automated there are other more costly options such as the Velodyne parametric equalizer.

sounds like a good solution. The new aperion audio bravus subs have those controls built in (i think), but I'm not so sure they'll compare to a Hsu or an SVS in SQ. The nice thing about the Bravus line is it has a remote so that you can fine tune everything from your seating position. Buying the better sub first (Hsu or SVS), then getting the BFD 1124P IF I have problems sounds like a better solution. THANKS!!!

Hi,
Did you check out Bravus against HSU? I have the same choice bothering me.
If you have auditioned both, please share your opinion.
Cheers

Nope, boominess depends almost entirely on what room modes are excited at the listing position, not on which way the driver faces.
