I have recently been trying to upgrade my home audio system and have put together everything except a sub. I currenly have a Yamaha reciever, a Bose VC-10 Center and a pair Of Polk RTi10 front speakers. I would like to find a sub for around $400-500. Any sugestion on what kind of sub i should try to purchase???

First thing to consider is the size of the room you are going to put the sub in. I use an HSU VTF-2 mk2, which goes for about $500. my room is about 2700 cubic feet and it sounds great. if you have a smaller room or lower ceilings, you could go with the stf-2 for about $400. check them out at HSUresearch

I've heard SVS subs are also good, but can't speak of them from experience.
