Just looking for confimation that I should calibrate my sub using a test tone from the Avia disc as opposed to the one generated by a Denon 1920 DVD Player.

Thanks,
Alex

I can neither confirm nor deny that.

Do you already have the Avia disc? Have you already tried out both and could tell a difference? If not, please try both and see if there's any difference. That way, you can help us to know. Thanks.

I have the disc and have tried both. IIRC there was a difference. I'm inclined to not trust the tone generated by the 1920. I just yanked a 2 channel amp out of my system and now it's time to recalibrate ... again. :)

I'm going to see where the level of the sub is with the rec'r gain maxed out through the 6 channel input as that produces the lowest sub volume. From there I'll level match everything everything else. That way if I should switch inputs in mid play back the levels will be matched to the same reference.

I like the tones used in the Avia II disk. I prefer them over my receiver's tones which run quite loud (85 dB). The Avia disk will let you run low, medium or high volume calibration too.

I just want to add that the variable reference volume is controlled by the master volume setting of the rec'r. Using the Avia disc I started with -15 MV and +10 sub gain which produced 74dB out of my 2 subs from the Avia disc with my rec'r source set to 6 channel.

The Denon test tone made it easy for me to level match the 2 subs because it plays a sub test tone continuously without switching to other channels like the Avia disc does.
