I am interested in getting a sub to go with my 2 mains. I recently got a pair of Klipsch RF-63s and am looking for some bass to go with them. I'm looking for a sub that is very accurate as I am mostly interested in the sub for music. It will also be used for movies but music is my first priority. Reading through the forums I have noticed most people tend to prefer SVS and HSU. I have also been looking at the RT-10d by Klipsch because that is the one that is made to match my mains, but from what I hear, there are a lot of better subs out there (and for cheaper). The RT-10d is about $1,600. I would say that is my highest price. I would prefer to get something for $1,000 or less, but would not object to going over. Any suggestions?

SVS or Hsu

SVS PB 13Ultra $1399 -$1699

or if you want to spend less

SVS PB 12 PLUS $949 -$1149

Both SVS subs are excelelnt!!

Hsu makes good subs even less expensive

Hsu VTF-3 HO Subwoofer with Turbocharger $999

These are considered two of the best unless you want to spend substantially more! :D

From a BASS ADDICT

Skip the Klipsch for that much! I had a $1000.00 Hsu VTF-3 HO Turbo that was the Hsu top-o-the-line and it rocked. Very, very powerful, great seven year driver warrenty, and plain bad a**. I pushed that sub, and it NEVER EVER bottomed out.

But, Sold it...to buy an SVS PB13 Ultra in Piano Black for $1700.00! The Ultra is said to be just that, Ultra. Mine won't ship till next week so no report yet....

Epik has a well respected sub in that price range, and it will flat sure tear down your house, so says the second link:

Here's a link to a chart with sub ratings..

Those fancy new speakers you have are very efficient, so get ALL the sub you can.

Nobody mentioned dual AVS123 MFW-15 subwoofers at $998. There is a waiting list last I heard.

That's what i'm considering. it's between that and the Ultra. Haven't decided if I'm going to splurge and get the Ultra. I also know 2 subs are going to be a tight fit.

I would like to see real world measurements of the MFW-15 someday to see how it runs out... see how accurate and linear it is....

Question: How does the PC-Ultra compare to its boxed counterpart? I am new to these cylinder subs and was wondering if boxed is better?

the box ultra extends a bit lower and goes a bit louder. but it does take up a lot of floorspace as compared to the cylinder.

Do you need extra equipment to run one of the cylinder subs?

From the SVS website:
"The Cylinder Series (CS) SVS subwoofers are for advanced users with their own separate power amps, subsonic filters and/or equalizers (in addition to a Dolby Digital receiver or separate crossover). If you like to “roll you own” systems with separate components, the CS, CS-Plus mirror their Powered Cylinder brothers’ model lineup, but without the critical built-in amp. Should you have capable mono or stereo amps collecting dust, our CS subs are a great way to make great deep bass on a budget too."

Does this mean my A/V receiver will not work with one of these subs?

the CS series subs are passive. you need to look at the PC (powered cylinders) series. besides, there's no CS-Ultra. the Ultra is only available in PC or PB (powered box).

Velodyne SPL-1200R. It's that good!! It replaced my SVS 25-31plus cylinder sub. The SVS served me well...but along came the velo!
