Sub recommendation for my room

Hello,
I am looking to get a sub my living room in my apartment. I’ll add some photos of the room. I am 80% movie 20% music. My room is 11x17x9. It is an open living room. Right now I have 2 jbl studio 550p subs and it’s alright but I’ve been told that the next upgrade I should take care of in my system is a “true” sub.

You have a good amount of open room volume to consider, nit just the living room. This is important for getting the right sub for your situation.
Also, what's your budget?

Say, for 2500'3 - 3000'3, you could look at the 2000 or 3000 series from SVS, Hsu VTF-2... I have 2 Outlaw x-13s in a 2000'3 room. :) Monolith 10 or 12" subs... Rythmik has some 12" subs that many like, though their sweet spot is the 15" variety.
Nothing wrong with "too much" sub, however, I'm a big fan of encouraging dual subs! Dual Hsu VTF-2 subs should take care of you pretty well! Great performance for the value: arguably the value leader.

Hope this help... Happy hunting!

The JBL sub spec is a lower response of 27Hz but isn't defined; if like the rest of the Studio speaker line up its the f6 quoted (-6dB point). Is there something particular you think you're missing? Subs I do prefer to at least have an f3 of 20Hz, but are you sure you need that extra 10hz or so of extension? Can be nice for movies that have such content. I'd stick with duals, too (or at least get one now and save up for the second matching sub)....what's your budget?

Thanks for the replies, I really like the hsu vtf 2 and 3. I could afford the dual vtf 2s now or I could get one of the vtf 3 or the vtf 15h mk2 and save up a little for a second one if necessary. Would you recommend duals for vtf 3 or vtf 15h or would one be alright for my space? Or would you think dual vtf 2s would be plenty and save about 600$ ?
Thanks , Logan

How loud do you like it? If you want pretty loud, get the VTF-2s, but if you like crazy loud, get the VTF-3s or VTF15h subs. The 15"s will be a lot more impactful.

I would add to what Shady says... if you think you might move to a larger place in 2-3 years, say, maybe go bigger. If you don't see that happening.... Well, you still have to decide on subs.
One friend here likes to advise: buy the best single sub you can allow yourself to afford now and then start saving for the second matching one right away.
Two subs will give you slightly increased output, but if placed smartly, they will create a more even bass response across your room (meaning that just one seat doesn't get all the bass ;)). That's the immediate payout for buying two at once. If you are committed to buying two over time, still no biggy.
The question really becomes one of personal preference.
How crazy do you envision yourself getting? If you want to shake the pillars of Heaven... Shady said it best!

If it were me I'd consider the VTF--3 and save up for a 2nd one. I have a pair of those myself and I'm very confident (barring something doesn't blow up!) I'm done buying subs. Well... unless I suddenly come into a pile of money, lose my mind and get a pair of PB 16 Ultras.

That said, a pair of VTF-2's would be nothing to sneeze at either.

*Edit: You're in an apartment? I don't know how well your neighbors would like your new subs. Bass really carries...
