Does the power for the sub need to be run through a surge protector/line conditioner. I am in the process of wiring for my future HT and want to know if I should wire the sub through one of my Trip-lite isobar units or straight to the breaker in the panel. I am planning on running the receiver and the projector through one. Sub on a different one with different circuit?

Surge protector only for the sub IMO. If you are already doing a bunch of wiring perhaps a whole house surge protector makes sense. It certainly simplifies things.

Ditto to what Nick writes, unless you like running the risk of frying expensive equipment (just a separate surge protector for the sub).

I have a question related to this too...I'm planning on buying this Tripplite for surge protection/line cleaning and I was wondering if I could plug in my Amp, TV and Sub to the trip lite, or if it would be too much for the Trippy to handle.

I don't want to spring for ANOTHER surge protector right now though, so if its too much maybe I'll run the sub directly from the wall socket or through a simple surge protector. Your thoughts?

Yea that tripp-lite with the isobar protection was what i was wanting also. You want to make sure it is with the isobar for emi/rf filtering. It is good for 1440 watts or a 15 amp circuit. put it all on there and if it trips buy another one and spread it out. They have an overload protectector. If you have a power hungry system i am sure it will take more than one. Regular systems will probably do just fine. They are all just good for 15a (one circuit). If you have it all plugged into one outlet now and doesn't trip the breaker in your panel it will work fine. I think that is what I am going to do. I have whole house protection with a TVSS but we have a lot of lightning and have lost everything once before and am kinda paranoid.

Thanks db. I'll check it out and see. I live in an apartment, so let's see if it can actually handle all that power draw :p
