Sub placement in corner

Hi, I was wondering how close should the sub be to the corner? It it be a few inches away from both walls or should it be as close as possible?

Also, my current room doesn't have a closet so I built a pseudo closet on the wall. The sub will be under the clothes. Is it okay to keep the clothes hanging over the sub or should I move the clothes away from the sub for the best possible acousitics? Thanks.

Sang,

I have my Carver Sunfire snug into the corner and it sounds great there. But understand that when you put a subwoofer in a corner you get the maximum output, with much of that output at the room's modal frequencies. I have a ton of bass trapping in my HT room, so the corner placement does not exaggerate that effect as much as would happen in an untreated room.

Probably, but I suggest you try it both ways and see if you can hear a difference.

Ethan,

Thanks for your help. I guess I'll put my sub as close as possible in the corner and I'll test out whether or not to put the clothes over my sub. I was just concerned about maybe dampening the sound or something. I'm a newbie.

Just spent an hour relocating my sub. I seem to get the best bass when the sub is placed right up against the wall (only 3-4 inches), and near a corner. I can't get it into a corner b/c my tower speaker is there. The sub is right in front and against a wall now. I was losing bass b/c my furniture was up against my walls. I moved my furniture out a few inches, and whalah, more bass. I also removed several comforters that were lying next to my sub, and that seemed to help quite a bit also. It would appear that the sub likes to resonate drywall, and dislikes objects that get near it. I tried facing the port to the wall, to the room, and diagnally into the corner. Best bet is facing the port directly at the wall. Axiom may suggest crawling around your room on all fours, but it's much easier to move furniture a few inches than put the sub out where everyone can see it.
