Hi and thanx to anyone who can help me out with this. This is gonna sound wierd but here's my problem, I have a PS3 hooked up to a Sony STR-DG510 Receiver and then out to the TV.

The problem is that the sub (Klipsch 12") only works before I load the game. Once the game loads up the sub is still on but I here no bass. This is really wierd. I am currently hooked up using optical cables from the PS3 to the Receiver, the video is HDMI to the receiver & then out to TV. The sub is connected using a audio Y adapter over to a sub cable which plugs in the receivers sub input.

I really have no clue why I can hear the sub before I load the game but soon as the game loads up I can no longer hear it.

Have you tried different settings? Maybe your Receiver doesn't like the Dobly or whatever. Try stereo, or other settings. Does it work fine everywhere else? DVDs, CDs?

Settings & Unlock Displayed?

Well when u setup the ps3 audio settings you have to check off which audio types ur receiver can play. There is Dolby 5.1, AAC, DTS 5.1, & the 2 I left unchecked were linear PCM audio.

Also, I noticed something strange. Right before the game loads, the screen flickers for the HDMI and then the receiver displays "Unlock"? Then my sub stops working. According to the sony receiver manual, "Unlock appears on the display if no digital signal is input through the optical jack.

I think this is the source of my problem but I can still hear sound through all the speakers, just no bass. I'm guessing that when the screen flickers for the HDMI it has no audio connection in that split second. This is tricking my reiever into thinking there is no Optical connection hooked up.

Check the ps3 setup menu. Someplace it should ask about audio through the HDMI. May want to say no and see what happens. Also, do not connect the analog audio. Do you have digital audio by coax? May want to try that too, also try bitstream?
May want to also try HDMI direct to TV.

Nothin Works

I've tried outputting the audio from the PS3 via HDMI but that only makes sound come out through the TV. When I use the optical port, and shut the hdmi off, then sound comes out through the surround sound speakers. Problem is once the game loads up then I get a "Unlock" message and my Sub puts out no sound.

I've tried PS3 to receiver (HDMI), and then receiver to TV (HDMI). No luck. THen I tried PS3 to TV (HDMI), and then optical from PS3 out to Receiver. Same problem once the game loads up.

OK:confused:
Does this happen with movie DVD or BD in the PS3?

This might sound really weird and I might be terribly confused. But, are you sure the PS3 is sending the undecoded digital signal to the receiver?

I had a similar "no sub" working when I first setup my first DVD to the receiver and it turned out the DVD player was doing the decoding and keeping the sub signal to its own LFE channel.

Good thought but I asked him to disconnect the analog audio out, so that would mean he is using the digital in which case it is sending some digital but not the sub. Don't think the digital could be partial, no sub signal.
But, in any way, he needs to do more checking as there is a reason.
