sub matching to martin logan (not esl)?

I currently have some martin logan mosaics, very detailed and nice to a naive fellow like myself, but the bass is a bit weak. The entry level 'Depth' subwoofer is very expensive, and claims the special power of 'quickness'. I have worries about it being able to fill the moderately large kitchen/dining/entertainment area of my new condo.

I don't understand necessarily the need to match a ML subwoofer, and would assume a quality SVS sub will work. I'm not sure though.

Also, I have neighbors on both sides and underneath a thin concrete floor. I'm not sure if that rules out the SVS downfiring subs. I just want to restore that missing part of the music, without inciting any neighbor's rage.

Any suggestions for a good matching sub? Music is first - I've found most my favorite movies are more dialog oriented anyways. Maybe the recently reviewed axiom, or if you think the depth is a good idea, I could get that auditioned in my condo after I move in.

This is for the main room. If only I could also justify a big subwoofer in my bedroom.

Well, the Hsu subs are downfiring too, but they don't try to go for maximum extention and output as much as the SV subs. They have higher tuning frequencies so they don't try to reproduce what the can't. The price should be right too.

Oh, just another thought, perhaps one of the Rocket subs would be a good option. Audioholics has a review of it here. AV123 is also offering a twin sub package for $1k, if you're willing to spend that much.

With a room that size, you are correct, you are going to need a fairly hefty sub. I see no reason why an SVS or HSU wouldn't work, and downfiring vs front/side firing won't make a big difference. I've owned subs from both, and both companies make excellent subs.
