Hi,

New to this web site. I'v found great articles .

First sorry for my english....

I have a sub situation here.

I decided a few days ago to add a sub to my rather simple sound system.

I have a A/V receiver, HDTV (hooked up with a HD cable provider), a DVD player and 2 floor speakers.

I followed what I,ve found here and connected the sub with a sub cable to the receiver using the LFE connection on the sub and the sub out of the receiver, the setting of the speaker to small and the crossover to 80.

And ...... nothing... it seems that no signals is sent..... Did I miss something ?

Evereywhere I reed of how to connect a 5.1 system but no 2.1.....

Thanks

I just hooked up my first last night, and used the manufacturers recommendation on the volume setting on the sub. First, depending on your receiver, there may be a 'sub input' jack on the receiver. Make sure you didn't plug into that. I actually didn't, but it was listed in the sub manufacturers manual as something to check. I found that the output level from the receiver was so low that I had no volume on the sub at all until I turned up the sub's volume. Check the output level of the receiver first, and check the volume level of the sub itself.

And if you're receiver can do the crossover, turn the crossover knob all the way up on the sub itself.

As mentioned, make sure the volume knob on the sub is at an appropriate level, then make sure the sub is enabled in your receiver's audio settings.

If you've been running the system full range all this time that means the sub is likely turned off in the receiver and/or the other speakers are set to large which will send no signal to the sub. Makes no difference if it is 2.1, 5.1 or 7.1, etc...

Thank for the replys

The sub is set at "yes" on the receiver setting and the speakers to small.

The volume on the sub is at max level and still, no sound...

And as for the crossover on the sub, the sub manuel says that it's not working when using the LFE connection.

It sounds like you have it hooked up right. The only other thing I can think of is make sure you are not running your receiver in pure direct or source direct mode. (It might be called something else, but these modes disable the sub)

One of my friend told me that I should use the line level input with the "Y" adapter that I have. Since he's a newbe like I'am, could he be right. the next step is to throw the sub by the window..... I'm on the 4th floor.....

If you get no sound on one input, two isn't likely to do much better :)

Make sure not to leave your sub at 100% volume as you test because you could damage it. Does your receiver have preamp outputs for any other channels? You can try sending signal to the sub from one of those just to verify that the sub is working.

I m at work right now so I dont know if I can test what you suggest. The receiver is a JVC rx6042 maybe that could help.

Couldn't find anything definitive but it seems it does not have preamp outputs for the other channels besides the sub.

Maybe post up some pictures of how everything is wired and the setup menu if you can after you get off work?

What sub do you have? Are there any power lights on it? If so, are they on?

If you've got anything with phono out's ...cd/dvd player...
you could hook it up to the sub....
Obviously,.. start at really low volume/gain
