Have old (97) velodyne 12" sub. Problem is it has 2 rca inputs and new recievers have only 1 rca out to sub. What kind of cable do I need? My old setup was sony str de835 :( with monster cable to sub. The sony has died
and in looking here I made up my mind (to upgrade?) to yamaha rxv659 that only has 1 sub jack out. Is there a sub cable with 1 jack from reciever that splits into 2 into sub? Thanx, apologies in advance for dumb question, poor grammer.

you can use the same cable. Look in the book for the sub it should state which one to hook the cable to when connecting a single cable

Sure there are
like this

but you should be OK connecting it to just your left channel on the sub.

I think you actually need the opposite of the one above...a single female, to accept the cable from your receiver, that then splits it to 2 male for both L/R inputs on your sub. Unless I'm reading incorrectly.

He may not need to split it. On some subs, if you connect one of the two inputs, the sub will split the two channels for you.

As mentioned, usually connecting to either the left or right rca input should be fine, check you manual if you still have it. Some people use the Y-cable so that the sub is more sensitive especially if the sub is set to Auto-On.

Let me see, 1 male out from reciever to 2 female that will attach to the 2 male ends on the monster cable I run 4 ft to sub, then 2 male into sub, so I need 1 male to 2 female Y connecter if I hook it up that way,any hoo thanks for the help.

Actually, since both the receiver and the sub take male ends, you need:

1) a double male "Y" to single female; and,
2) a standard sub cable (male ends), whatever length you need.

Cheers.
