i want to build a nice sub for my patio 11 x 33 foot area, it needs to mount in the ceiling, i guess either build a box using the rafters as sides or some other configuration, i was looking for good ideas here

anyone else done this or have any good ideas for this.

thanks for any input

A 250 watt subwoofer...w/o an amp...hmmmm. Kind of misleading huh? I sure would like to experience a subwoofer that looks like a rock though!:)

patio sub

i was more interested in a sub for a ceiling application, the rock will not work well, wiring would be one big problem as the 11 x 33 foot patio leads to a 25' x 20, pool, all concrete already so hiding wires might be difficult. The 11 x 33 foot part is covered with a truss roof thus having a nice strong structure to secure the woofer too. i was looking at the floor joist one that ************ was selling but they have discontinued it, so i was just looking to design one that fit between rafters and was thinking some others might have done this already and worked thru same issues and have come up with a nice design already or other clever ideas.

again any ideas would be appreciated.

thanks

What kind of distance do you have between rafters?

Maybe building something of thin wood with a good thick double coat of fibreglass would be the way to go.

You could then screw brackets into it and screw that into the rafters, that way it would still be removable if need arises.

I assume you have built boxes before?

The other challenge is going to be getting a good strong sound in the great outdoors.

They do make in-wall subwoofers. If the distance between the trusses is right, could save you some work.
