I need help my theater room is 28' x 24' I have a onkyo 6.1 and the sub is a 8" 150 watt I bought a velodyne cht15 at abc warehouse it was a 15" 750 watt sub and I was just so not impresed with with it's performance! so I took it back and later on I bought a polk audio 10" 100 watt from circut city (A FLOOR MODEL) for 130$ out the door and I am running that with my onkyo and the two of them put out more bass than that velodyne did but I want more! I am a big time movie freak mostly action flicks and I want my heart to skip a beat when a car crashes! Does anyone know of a good sub that will perform like this? I seen jbl has a 18" 500 watt sub I can get on ebay for 500 has anyone heard this sub before and I was also checking out a sunfire 1500 watt sub! I have 800 bucks to spend any and all thoughts will be great! THANKS!

Size matters in a sub. You do have a huge room that needs to be energized. You may need more than one or two subs for the levels you are looking for.
You may want to consider the SVS line as well?
But, now I see your $$ amount. I doubt you will ever be satisfied with that budget. You cannot even make it yourselfe for that amount to give the energy you are looking for.

They have a new polk audio at abc I was checking out it's only a 12" but it pounded pretty good way better than the velodyne I had and it's only 350$ I was thinking about getting 2 of those but I want to do my homework first and see if there is anything I might be missing out on like that 18" jbl for 500$ on ebay has anyone had a chance to check this sub out and if so what did you think? The model # is JBL JRX118SP and another thing that is on my mind is my main speakers are 100hz and up so I have some band width to fill!

I'd say the biggest HSU or SVS you can get would be a good start. Down the road you could always add a second one, too. If you can stretch your budget a bit, though, there is one solution that would probably knock your socks off- the Adire Rava. It's a 200 W powered sub built around a 12 Shiva driver in a sealed box. The price is $399, but that doesn't include shipping from Adire. You could buy a pair of them for $800, but you'd probably have to pay $80-$90 shipping. However, a pair of them would rock your world bigtime.

Go with M&Ks MX-5000 MK II THX Ultra or Velodyne's Digital Drive 18 (I have an HGS-18 from them, discontinued, that simple knocks walls down no matter where I put it).

I have a pair of Sunfire True Subs...but they are in storage in favor of the HGS-18. Velodyne makes a great sub.

Also, check out Aura Bass Shakers from PartsExpress.com. You might dig those if your a big movie buff (which it seems you are).

Thank you people for all the advice, I contacted the people at SVS and they say I should try their SVS 16-46 pci subwoofer system at 649$. I emailed them and they are willing to give me my money back if this sub does not make the fillings in my teeth fall out so I think the velodynes are going back to abc warehouse and I am going to try one of thease subs!

That is certainly a very large room for any subwoofer. But there are a few things.....

*How close is your seat from the sub?
*Whats the floor made out of?

Are you placing the subwoofer(s) in a corner? A corner placement is by far, the most efficient spot in a standard rectangular or square room format. You can easily double efficiency and maximum SPL with a corner loaded as opposed to non-corner loaded subwoofer.

For his needs, I'm almost thinking of recommending a pair of folded horn subwoofers (folded horns are intended to work in pairs). His room just might be big enough and since he is just a home theater buff, that might just fit the bill. A pair of those powered by Crown (higher end) or Behringers (bang for the buck) amps.

Maybe a pair of these: http://pssl.com/bitemdetail.tpl?eqint_KeyIDdata=34587&UID=2005020914200577

That's just over 1000 bucks, so it's gunna turn out to even be less expensive than if you buy a big home subwoofer. Those things POUND. Huge sensitivity due to the horns.... 106dB sensitivity and you get to feed it 500watts RMS.
