i have my sub on the same wall as my fronts, equidistant from my seating position, and am wondering if it should be set the same distance on the reciever. i only ask as ive heard some auto setup programs on recievers set them alot further away. i only have manual setup on mine. any reason why the auto ones would set the sub further than it actually is and could it be benificial to do so. cheers

The auto-setup programs generally set them further away when the volume level on the sub is set too high. It is going strictly off SPL levels and sets it accordingly to get the proper level. In other words, if it sets it like that, the sub should be adjusted and calibration run again most likely.

What that means: when you are calibrating it yourself, you should set it as close to the actual distance as possible for best results.
