First off hi from a long time lurker.

Ok I have a small dilemma. I live on the west coast of Canada so sub choices are not as abundant as I would like. I purchased a Velodyne DPS -12b for $599 ( Canadian ) from a local Bestbuy and it seems to do the job fairly well in my 14'x20'x15' Condo. I then noticed that SVS ships to Canada! yay! SO I purchased a PB10-ISD for $429 US + $62.68 shipping, this works out to just over $600 ( Canadian ).

My question. Will the SVS's 20Hz - 100Hz @ 300w fill my room as well as the Velodyne's 25Hz - 120Hz @ 400w ? I read that the SVS will go down to 20Hz with little to no drop off or struggle, where as the Velodyne starts having drop off at 30Hz.

Thanks
Steve

P.S. Also the lack of a volume nob on the DPS annoys me to no end!

Judging by the specs, the PB-10 should do just fine in your condo. I do have to wonder about brokerage though...have you priced out that? You might want to try looking at Hsu as well. They have Canadian distributors.

Little confused though...you said you bought the sub...then why are you asking how it would compare? Not trying to be rude here though...

E-mail SVS and ask the same question. They are really good with that stuff.

Never thought about the brokerage , hrm. Roughly how much would that be on $429 US?

Sorry I guess I should have been more clear. I Just bought the SVS this morning, so it won't arrive for a week or so. I was wondering if the cleaner bass and lower response would make up for the fact it was a 10" and not a 12" like my Velodyne

I'm looking at a sub from the states for $229.00 + $43 shipping US. Will be close to $450 Cad once I do conversion and pay $64 brokerage fee for a 49lb item and our lovely 15% tax in Ontario.

Ok I just got off the phone with UPS and this is what I am paying.

$429 = $530 Canadian x 14% tax = $604 + Broker fees $52.26 + Shipping 62.29 = $718

I paid $599 Canadian for the Velodyne x 14% tax = $684

So basically I am paying $34 more for a SVS shipped. A comparable HSU sub with a 18Hz low VTF-3 MK2 from http://www.hi-fidelity.com/DVDCases.htm is $999.99 Canadian, a bit out of my price range.

Sounds like you got a pretty good deal. Remember, two subs is ALWAYS a viable option :D

It will be cleaner bass, and offer the lower frequencies, but may not hit the dB's as well. I found at our SVS visit the PB10 played very low because of it's large cabinet, but didn't provide the "heart stopping" punch the plus/ultra units offered. Again, it's all about money and budgets.
