My SVS PB12-NSD sub suddenly went quiet for some reason. The built-in amp still shows green light on but even when i turn the gain up to max theres barely any sound coming out of it. Not sure what exactly happened but I switched to my other sub and it works fine. I check all the connections and there are no problems that I can see.

It should still be under warranty since I didn't even have it for a year yet. I am not sure how SVS deals with their warranties but this thing is huge and heavy and... I dont even want to have to think about having to ship it back to them first to get some sort of replacement if it results to that.

I imagine that they'd send you out a new amp along with a return label to send your amp back. Just a guess, based on the following.

I got a new PC13-Ultra in July, and it was damaged in shipping. They sent me out a new one along with a return label for the original sub. My amp has an issue, and I believe that they are going to send out a new amp once they've gotten the issue resolved.

That's good to know, but i still don't understand how it died suddenly.

Well, as the song goes, "it's better to burn out...then fade away." :)

As failures go, I wouldn't be too surprised by a sudden one. More than likely, one of the critical electrical components within the amp failed (due to electrical, thermal, or other reasons), causing the performance of the amp to suddenly drop off.

Koei,

Sorry to hear about your sub, that's a bummer. Look on the bright side, at least you were smart enough to buy from a reputable company with a good track record, it'll be taken care of soon. Post how the service cycle went.

Did you go over your receiver's speaker settings, LFE still on, etc?
Does it respond to internal test tones from the receiver? Do all the other channels?

I checked all settings on the receiver, all the other channels are fine except sub. I took the sub I have upstairs down just to test and it works.

Every once in a blue moon, my sub will stop working too.

Turn the power switch on the back of the subwoofer to the off position....wait for the green light to turn off, then turn the power switch back on. For whatever reason, that usually does the trick in my case.

Well, at least you checked and now you are about certain. Time for a new one, unless it can be repaired? :D

Honestly, I'm waiting to see if BN's solution also works for koei. That would be a great resolution to this. So much easier than swapping out an amp.
