I'm looking for subs under the $500 mark. I think I have some good options lined up. My room is 12x20x9 (it's actually two rooms divided by an archway. The HT area is on one side.) My fronts will be Paradigm Studio 20's with a cc590 center. Still thinking about my surrounds.
One issue that I have, however, is that I live in an old rowhome. I have neighbors on either side of me. Luckily the rowhomes are brick and are well built (mine is 150 years old). Still, I'm quite wary of disturbing my neighbors and my wife isn't necessarily thrilled with floor shaking base.
I don't feel that I need to rattle the rafters either. I like the way a good sub can fill the room with warm musical notes and I'm willing to go for the same effect with my HT. (Once I get a stand alone home in a few years I can blow the doors off of it but for now I'm good with a warmer more immersive sound field even for HT.)
So, I've aranged a few options here:
lfm-1 compact: (HxWxD) 16.75" x 13 " x 19 " $339
pb10-nsd: 19" high x 15" wide x 21" deep $429
vtf-1 : 19.5"(h) x 14"(w) x 18"(d) $399
vtf-2 mk3: 22"(h) X 15" (w) X 23" (d) $499
Smaller size is a nice to have but not a deal breaker. Saving a few bucks on the compact doesn't hurt either. I like the vtf series because it lets me tune to music or HT. For now I can tune exclusively to music. I was looking at the VTF-1 but it's only rated down to 25 HZ. The Vtf2 gets below 20 (18hz) and I thought that it would provide fuller sound. The pb10 seems like it's a good price, size, performance compromise.
Any thoughts? Preferences? Suggestions?
Thanks!!!
